Pyeloplasty

Pyeloplasty is the surgical reconstruction or revision of the renal pelvis to drain and decompress the kidney. Most commonly it is performed to treat an uretero-pelvic junction obstruction if residual renal function is adequate.
Overview

Obstruction of the UPJ is one of the most common congenital abnormalities of the urinary tract. Currently, the vast majority of UPJ obstructions (90%) are detected with prenatal ultrasonography. A pyeloplasty can either be done by the robotic, open, or laparoscopic route.
